Whether your disability is congenital meaning you are born with it or acquired diagnosis day is one of the hardest days in the disability journey. From talking with my parents and different people I know that it is common for health care professionals to give you a wide range of possible outcomes which can leave you feeling overwhelmed and scared. When my parents received my diagnosis when my mom was 12 weeks pregnant with me they had only heard about Spina Bifida in books but the had neve met anyone with it. Their faith in God is what brought them comfort in this time they prayed over the situation but this one scripture that stood out to them and brought so much peace in a time of uncertainty is 2 Corinthians 12:9 that reads "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is perfected in weakness." This reminded my parents at the time and still reminds my family that no matter what happens it is apart of Gods plan which is perfect to glorify him. My piece of advice to any newly disabled person or to a parent/care taker who is just receiving a diagnosis to connect other people with the same diagnosis this is really important in knowing that you aren't alone in the it and know that everything will workout. It is common for people to grief what life was or could've been before disability but it is important to know that even after disability you can still conquer you dreams. The route to get their may look different because of disability but if you want something and work for it then you will succeed. It is important to know that disabled people can still move on to live pretty normal lives graduate high school, go to college, get a job, get married, have a family and so much more!
